parent / teen coach
my coaching philosophy: In a world where grades are more prized than the joy of learning and material possessions receive more attention than relationships, many parents role-model a stressed, exhausted and passionless adult to their teenager. I believe that prepared and aware parents are vital to grow confident, connected and courageous young adults. So I coach families to connect, teens to excel and parents to relax. I teach people how to improve their relationships and inspire them to live their dreams. I even promote having fun! Life is not set in concrete – everyone (regardless of age or background) has the strength and creativity to unshackle themselves from habits, perceptions and beliefs. I facilitate that change. what coaching is: Athletes and teams use a sports coach to improve their physical performance. They want to function at their best. Parents and teens turn to me for the same reason - to reach their potential. Coaching comes with a sense of optimisation, improvement and forward-focus; not repair and make-do. · Coaching is not therapy. · Coaching is not a crutch. · Coaching does not tell you 'what to do'. · Coaching is not a clinical model - you're not broken! I can help you overcome hurdles, clarify decisions, increase your confidence… the list goes on! Working together as a partnership, I act as supporter, questioner, guide, encourager, facilitator, sounding board, motivator… I don’t make decisions for you, but help you consider all options, opportunities and outcomes. Then you can make deliberate choices that move you from your current situation, to where you really want to be. I deal with down-to-earth, practical material. I use plain-English language with plenty of everyday examples... and I <shock, horror!> enjoy my work and have fun! pick me! I'd love you to choose me! Here's why... · My specialty is parents and teens. Other coaches recoil in horror at the thought of dealing with youth and parenting issues! · It's rare for coaches to actually TEACH parents the coaching skills they can then use in their families (or workplaces!) to build and maintain strong relationships. Talk about upskilling! · I'm the only New Zealand coach trained in the Parent As Coach programme. Perhaps that's why I'm so sought-after...? I differ from many other coaches in that I look beyond just setting and reaching goals - I help you focus on the important, not just the urgent. And effective parenting is very important! “Stuart’s coaching showed me that I could choose the life I wanted..." Mrs W. My clients build a strong personal foundation and use it to make better decisions, stay healthy and be more consistent. They develop greater control, confidence and sense of direction. "I recommend Stuart to anyone who currently has a pulse if they are serious about getting more out of life and finding their core wellbeing." Mr M. My core coaching tools include: Parent As Coach programme | TetraMap model of behaviour | Life Design Systems material | Love the Life You Live material "This process gave me the opportunity to reassess everything." Miss R.

how to select a coach: Not all coaches are created equal. In your search, speak to several coaches and ask them the same questions. You'll want to know about their: · training · experience · coaching style and specialty · relationship with a professional association · fee structure Some work with individuals, others work with groups or companies. There are coaches that help build businesses, while others help you gain confidence or overcome personal hurdles. The coach will want to know what's drawn you to the idea of coaching and what you hope to gain from being coached. Listen to your instincts. Look for a friendly, yet professional, rapport between the two of you. You'll soon know if you're both on the same wave-length! And then... go for it! You will be amazed at what you can accomplish with the help of a coach!
